Transform Your Classroom into a "Shark Tank" with AI & TikTok Ads

Looking for a high-engagement project that combines curriculum mastery, persuasive writing, and cutting-edge AI?

I am excited to share the Viral Invention AI Activity. This project has been a massive hit in my classroom, and I’ve designed it to be adaptable for almost any subject—from History and Science to ELA and Math.

In this activity, students don’t just learn facts; they apply them by inventing a product that solves a problem from your current unit. Then, they use AI to generate a product image and a TikTok-style video ad to "sell" their idea to the class.

Step-by-Step Guide for Teachers

Step 1: The Hook (5-10 Minutes)

Start with a simple question: "If you lived in [the time period or setting we are studying], what is one thing that would annoy you?" * Example (History): "Getting the plague."

  • Example (Science): "Not being able to see atoms." Explain that today, they are Inventors tasked with creating a solution to that specific problem using what they’ve learned in class.

Step 2: Brainstorm & Design (20-25 Minutes)

Students use their notes to identify a real-world problem and name their invention.

  • The AI Prompt Lesson: Teach students that AI needs specific details to work well. Instead of prompting "a boat," teach them to use adjectives: "A rustic Viking longship with glowing blue runes, cinematic lighting, 4k digital art style."

  • Generate the Image: Students use Canva Magic Media (or a similar tool) to turn their prompt into a "Phone Wallpaper" sized image of their product.

Step 3: Scriptwriting with the "H.V.A." Method (15 Minutes)

To keep the videos fast-paced like a real TikTok, students write a 15-second script using this formula:

  • H - Hook: Grab attention in the first 3 seconds (e.g., "Are you tired of dying from the Black Death?").

  • V - Value: Explain the facts and why the product works (3–12 seconds).

  • A - Action: Tell the audience what to do next (12–15 seconds).

Step 4: AI Video Production (15 Minutes)

Now for the magic! Students upload their product image to Creatify.ai, paste their script, and select a digital "Avatar" or "Brand Voice" to narrate it. Within minutes, they have a professional-looking social media ad.

Step 5: The Shark Tank Showdown (15 Minutes)

Host a "pitch fest." Watch the videos as a class. Give each student "play money" to invest in their favorite inventions. The student who raises the most capital through their persuasive ad is the winner!

Quick Tips for Success

  • The "Weirdness" Factor: Remind students that AI isn't perfect—sometimes it adds extra fingers or strange textures. Tell them to embrace the "viral" humor of it!

  • Safety First: Remind students of the "No Deepfake" rule: never use AI to generate images of real people or classmates.
